Seebühne (or floating stage), with 7,000 seats,
is the location for large-scale opera or musical
performances on a stage over water on the shores
of Lake Constance.
At a height of 55 metres above Lake Constance a
human couple, soprano and tenor, hover and glide
in a reed boat suspended from a tower crane, where
they sing to the very last sigh as they bid farewell
to this earthly vale of tears for an imaginary Egyptian
kingdom of death. Aida does not end like this in
Verona, or even before the Pyramids and definitely
not in an ordinary opera house. You don't question,
you marvel. You are entranced and overwhelmed by
the gargantuan sets that piece themselves together
during the performance...
